About Our Client

Our client is a global corporation focusing on the luxury segment of consumer goods with its international operations hub based in the Zurich area. To strengthen their supply chain operations, we are exclusively recruiting a Global Category Manager (m/f).

Job Description

We are searching for a candidate with profound analytical skills and leading approach to manage the procurement category operations on a global level by driving continuous improvement. The main responsibilities for the future incumbent of the position will include:

  • Drive process adoption, identify new opportunities for continuous improvement for procurement operations and implement these opportunities within agreed timelines
  • Work collaboratively throughout the supply chain to drive cost, quality and supply improvements through supplier management, segmentation and negotiations for the packaging category (plastic/metal)
  • Develop, advocate, and implement sourcing strategies for assigned category to achieve short and long-term objectives, working closely with related internal departments (i.e. R&D, packaging, marketing) to ensure the delivery of the business needs
  • Support cross-functional management/enablement of our Joint Value Creation relationships with key partners
  • Lead cross brand supplier negotiations for the assigned category to ensure best overall cost position for the Organization, develop and approve contracts, agreements, supplier direction and business awards
  • Responsible for the overall strategic supplier relationship to insure a collaborative working relationship throughout the supply chain
  • Maintain a deep understanding of industry best practices and technology trends and educate team members and business partners as needed. Work with relevant internal departments on strategies related to changing global regulatory compliance requirements and environmental best practices
  • Develop and lead the strategy to mitigate supplier and industrial risks within the assigned category
  • Utilize the tools, and processes to optimize sourcing, supplier activities and efficiencies
  • Work collaboratively with team members to prioritize and drive implementation
  • Initiate and deliver regionalization and lead-time reduction sourcing projects and ensure long term capacity availability and operational excellence
  • Lead the budget process across brands for the assigned category
  • Support sustainability efforts within assigned commodities
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities and establish sources for new technologies and markets as dictated by business requirements, in collaboration with the innovation groups

The Successful Applicant

The ideal candidate should provide the following requirements:

  • Academic background with Bachelor's degree in Economics, Supply Chain, Operations, and/or Management (additional advanced degrees and certifications in Supply Chain; APICS, CIPS, Lean Six Sigma, CSCP, ISM is a plus)
  • At least 8 years of experience in relevant supply chain functions, preferably in the consumer goods or relevant industries (healthcare, chemicals, luxury, etc.)
  • Ideally experience in a global, multi-brand, multi-channel environment complemented by understanding of inter-company procurement processes
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills
  • Must possess the procurement skills such as supplier relationship management, sourcing sequence, sourcing strategy, supply chain management, stakeholder's engagement, negotiation, analytics and legal
  • Leadership skills required are efficiency, clear and constructive communication, emotional intelligence and entrepreneurship
  • Driver of excellence in execution and strong own initiative in proactively seeking ways to improve personal and organizational effectiveness
  • Must be a fact based decision maker, pragmatic, resourceful, and proactive
  • Must have a "can-do" and "will-do" attitude with respect to accomplishing goals, making the numbers, and satisfying the needs of internal and external customers
  • Business level fluency in English required, any other language knowledge is a plus
  • Excellent understanding of ERP systems (preferably SAP ECC, SAP SRM, and Ariba Sourcing and Contracts) and Excel
