The position

The Senior Sourcing Manager is responsible for the execution of Direct Procurement Operations activities within a specific region, country or site as well as supplier management responsibilities (negotiating, contracting, performance management, risk management) in alignment with Category Management team.

As a team member in the Direct Procurement Operations team, the role is responsible for executing various value-add activities including, but not limited to, first-level escalation from business stakeholders, master data management, supplier performance & risk management, and driving cost savings / continuous improvement initiatives to ensure maximum value-add to Operations. The Senior Sourcing Manager has management responsibility for a team of Sourcing Managers / Sourcing Specialists, and provides these resources with day-to-day directions and guidance in performing responsibilities.

What you will do

  • Lead procurement operations team: Lead a team of Sourcing Managers and Sourcing Specialists for specific areas of spend supporting local manufacturing, ensuring a focus on cycle-times and quality of customer service.
  • Perform procurement operations activities - Execute procurement operations activities within the Region and site ensuring a focus on efficiency, compliance, and the quality of customer service.
  • Maintain information flows - Responsible for maintaining strong information flows back to the Category Management teams and other internal stakeholders.
  • Apply sourcing process - Application of the sourcing process (RfIs, RfQs, RfPs) for the delivery of sourcing activity, incl. the application of eSourcing tools. Support the implementation of new processes, policies, and technologies.
  • Collaborate with support functions - Collaborate on an as-needed basis with relevant business support functions (e.g. Procurement Controlling, Accounts Payable) to drive operational efficiencies and maximum value-add to the business.
  • Monitor targets and KPIs – Ensure that Direct Procurement Operations targets and metrics on supply, quality and customer service are delivered. Track and monitor these metrics where required, and escalate issues as they arise.
  • Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) - Support CSR initiatives related to (candidate) suppliers, e.g. supplier diversity, anti-bribery, animal welfare, etc.
  • Develop people – Coach procurement team members and provide opportunities for professional development. Define a succession plan for the team to support career development and ensure a pipeline of talent.
  • Manage performance - Manage performance and talent development for all direct functional reports and contribute to feedback to project or other related resources, according to Roche’s standard.

  • University degree, with business related degree preferable.
  • Business level fluency in English.
  • 5+ years in-depth strategic and operational procurement experience with extensive knowledge of transactional procurement activities, business enterprise systems, and spot buying.
  • Proven leadership and management capabilities including the ability to successfully provide feedback and development support to individuals
  • Experience in leading cost reduction and value improvement programs.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated understanding of translating business requirements into procurement specifications in a customer centric way.
  • Proven capability in negotiation, conflict resolution and stakeholder management.
  • Knowledgeable in systems and processes for efficient management of contract documentation, templates and processing tools.
  • Willingness to travel 10%

Desired:

  • Post graduate business related qualification.
  • Fluency in German (as primary business language of the site) is preferable.
  • Life Sciences/ Medical Device/ GMP industry or Management Consulting experience.
  • Documented international Strategic Sourcing or cost reduction experience.
  • Experience in operational excellence or continuous improvement methodologies
  • Experience in or proven capability in collaboration with Category Management.
  • Life Sciences experience.
  • Professional purchasing (e.g. CIPS, ISM) or Finance related licenses or certifications.
  • Experience with enterprise systems and procure to-pay tools and eSourcing tools. (i.e.: Ariba, SAP etc.).
